Week 16

Friday, April 16, 2010
"NO!” I tell myself,
as my body automatically turns toward the bookstore.
“You may not buy any more books this week!”

Saturday, April 17, 2010
The kids watch in open-eyed fascination
as the street band at Pike Street Market
strums the washboard and plunks the bass.
What fun!

Sunday, April 18, 2010
Today is one of those beautiful Seattle days
that reminds us there’s more then gray and rain in our future.

Monday April 19, 2010
One profile, leads to a picture of someone I don’t know, and then,
to yet a third profile of some random person . . .
how quickly I digress to avoid work.

Tuesday, April 20, 2010
I used to think peanut butter, mayonnaise, and pickle
was a normal sandwich until I took it to Jr. Hi. for the first time.

Wednesday, April 21, 2010
It was an accident, it just slipped out.
But it will come back to haunt me, I know it will . . .
At school, church, or in a conversation with Grandma,
one of the boys will innocently slip it in,
"Grandma, please get out of the f-ing way!"

Thursday, April 22, 2010
Blurry eyed, my two-year-old asks
in the wee hours of the morning, “Mar comin’ t’day?”
How did we get so lucky to have the best nanny ever?

Friday, April 16, 2010

Week 15

Friday, April 9, 2010
My fingers fly over the keyboard cranking out work for clients,
while the washing machine hums, the dishwasher runs,
and the pattering of little feet can be heard cruising through the house.

Saturday, April 10, 2010
Day one of the Society for Children Book Writers and Illustrators
conference makes me realize how blissful
my state of “not knowing” really is.

Sunday, April 11, 2010
My head is swimming from information overload,
but in a good way.

Monday April 12, 2010
I am on a roll! My clients will be so pleased!

Tuesday, April 13, 2010
The four year old to the two year old, “It’s ‘Chava’ with a ‘v’.”
Two year old replies in his monotone voice, “Haba.”
“No,” says the four year old. “Va, va, va, v. Can you say ‘v’?”
“B.”
“No, veee.”
“Beee.”
“Chava.”
“Haba,” the two year old replies and walks away.

Wednesday, April 14, 2010
The boys insist they each have the funniest face “EVER”!
I'm pretty sure the youngest is copying the oldest and
the oldest doesn't know what he looks like.

Thursday, April 15, 2010
Attention writers: If you have writers block,
go and sit with a group of 5th and 6th graders for an hour
and they’ll get the juices flowing!

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Week 14

Friday, April 2, 2010
Last minute flights
do not provide the best of options
as I head to the airport at five in the morning.

Saturday, April 3, 2010
Sun. Family. Beautiful wedding.
What more can be said, except, “Congratulations, Tim and Patricia!”

Sunday, April 4, 2010
I watch the adoration pass between their eyes
as we celebrate my brother and his new wife, Patricia.

Monday, April 5, 2010
It is Monday. Back to reality.
Did I mention it is Monday?

Tuesday, April 6, 2010
Work? What’s that?

Wednesday, April 7, 2010
I'm trying to get motivated to pack, load the car, and
strap the boys down for a quick overnight trip to Portland . . .
come on motivation, where are you?

Thursday, April 8, 2010
I watch my boys celebrate their cousin’s 5th birthday,
bouncing up and down, up and down,
up and down in the bouncy houses.
I smile, knowing their energy will be zapped soon!
A quiet ride home to Seattle for me!

Week 13

Friday, March 26, 2010
Can one have too many books next to the bed?
I guess the real question is, can one have too many books?

Saturday, March 27, 2010
I really want to write something,
but can’t seem to figure out what that is.

Sunday, March 28, 2010
Do you ever get the feeling
that the only contact you have with the outside world
is through the screen of your computer?

Monday, March 29, 2010
I found my new desk! Whoo-hoo.
Now I need to figure out what I’m doing
with the rest of my office.

Tuesday, March 30, 2010
I’m in trouble. My four year old's
debating skills are razor sharp
AND sometimes he’s right.
The good news — I’m still bigger.

Wednesday, March 31, 2010
Game on. Nine kids running around our front yard
searching for Easter eggs.

Thursday, April 1, 2010
Zut-Alor! My plane ticket to my brother's wedding tomorrow
is not really a plane ticket. No joke!
Must find flight to Phoenix, pronto!

Week 12

Friday, March 19, 2010
There's a tickle in the back of my throat.
Please, please, don't let it flourish into anything more.

Saturday, March 20, 2010
There’s nothing better then an impromptu dinner
with friends after spending the afternoon hanging out with them!

Sunday, March 21, 2010
I’m sick. The two year old is sick. I have no thought.

Monday, March 22, 2010
You know you're moving slow
when the four year old asks,
"Are we getting dressed today?"

Tuesday, March 23, 2010
I feel a theme coming on . . . sick.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010
How would Jane Eyre describe her ailments?
“I am unwell and therefore indisposed.”

Thursday, March 25, 2010
I am reluctant to say I’m better,
but I can see a faint light at the end of the tunnel.
